Dear Readers:
My son Matt Spooner married Julie DeLiema on Sunday, June 27, in a beautiful ceremony in Mission Viejo, CA. For this occasion, Julie's dad, Rob DeLiema, composed original lyrics to John Denver's song "Poems, Prayers and Promises." It was performed by Jerry Valentine, a dear family friend of the DeLiemas. I asked Rob if I could share it with all of you. I'm sure you will find it as moving as I did.

Poems, Prayers and Promises...
I’ve been lately thinking about my life’s time
all the things I’ve done and how it’s been,
and I can’t help believin’ in my own mind
A day like this I wish would never end
My daughter’s now become a very fine young lady
Being her father’s always made me proud
The little girl I once knew
Is now a lovely woman
And found the man I know she’ll always love
And I have to say it now I wish you a good life all in all
A life of love and smiles and kindness all around
Supporting one another and being best of friends
With all that life’s ups and downs
Will send you through the years
And talk of Poems, Prayers and Promises
things that you believe in,
how sweet it is to love someone,
how right is it to care, how long it’s been since yesterday
what about tomorrow and what about your dreams
and all the memories you’ll share…
Days have passed so quickly now, nights weren’t too long
Time around me whispers, let her go
Changes are a part of life, it’s Julie’s turn today
With Matt to help guide her on the way
I pray that life is good to you
There’s still so much to do
So many things your minds have never known
You’ll tackle them together
With support along the way
To dance across the mountains on your own
And I have to say it now I wish you a good life all in all
A life of love and smiles and kindness all around
Supporting one another and being best of friends
With all that life’s ups and downs
Will send you through the years
And talk of Poems, Prayers and Promises
things that you believe in,
how sweet it is to love someone,
how right is it to care, how long it’s been since yesterday
what about tomorrow and what about your dreams
and all the memories you’ll share…

So here am I am, supposedly on the job in Baton Rouge. I am anxious to return home tomorrow and see my family including daughter Samantha. So now I get to read these beautifully written lyrics you have posted and get all teary eye'd... while at work no less. I know it may seem selfish but I truly don't know how I am going to manage the day my turn comes. Still I am grateful for this Chuck as it is a terrific reminder of the important things in life. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteDang nab it, now I'M gettin' all misty eyed. ;-)
